Texting or speaking on phone while crossing the road is the most distracting, and potentially most dangerous activity. The observers recorded "distracting" activities, including talking on the phone, text messaging, or listening to music on mobile devices, as well as talking to others or dealing with children or pets. Young people walk and use cellphones more than other age groups. About half of students ages 15 to 19 say they use a cellphone when walking to school.
