Thangkas serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various lamas and other deities in Bhutan. Thangka images of deities can be used as teaching tools describing historical events concerning important Lamas with other deities such as Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), goddess Green Tara, Avalokiteshvara etc... Most of the people from Bhutan have Tangkas hanging on or beside altars and may be hung in the bedrooms or offices of monks and other devotees.
