The Sidi Goma or Siddi of Gir and around in Gujarat, originated from Sudan and other parts of Africa. They have retained their African lineage, in the form of dance and music, rhythm and culture, but also incorporated elements of local Gujarati culture in India. Their dance form is unique and a true amalgamation of India's cultural pluralism. The Siddi make faces to mimic animal's emotions, they wear peacock feathers and live in the Asiatic Lion inhabited forests around Gir, making them true wilderness inhabitants. The signature routine of their dance is the chucking up of a coconut into the air, and aiming to have it hit the noggin so that it cracks on the skull, and coconut water splashes all around!
