In the poem 'Block City', we saw how the child used his building blocks to create an entire city of his own…a city with a palace, a tower, a kirk, a mill and a harbour. Let us see what else we can do with blocks! Have you ever heard about block printing? Block printing is the process of printing patterns and designs on textile or paper, usually using wooden blocks. These blocks have patterns or designs carved on one side. The blocks are then dipped in dye and pressed on to the fabric for printing. Designs that are printed using this technique are much bolder than other types of printmaking. This is because blocks are carved by hand, and so there is less detail in the prints. The blocks could be made of wood, rubber or other materials. The technique was born in China as early as 220 CE. The
