Gangte tribes are one of the tribal groups of Manipur - they are scattered in different parts of southern part of Churachandpur District. This tribal community is a sub group of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo tribes. In the total Indian perspective, as per survey of 2001, the total population of Gangte tribes has been enumerated to be 15,100. These Gangte tribes speak the language of the same name. The Gangte tribes bear East Asian features. The Gangtes of Manipur is a part of Kuki tribal communities. Gangte has a literal meaning. The word is named after the place carrying the name Ganggam. In fact, the word Gangte means 'person from Ganggam'. But no body knows about the correct location of the place.
