Resident doctors of the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) of Safdarjung Hospital and University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) have gone on strike to protest against the alleged highhandedness of police and administration against junior doctors in Kanpur. The out-patient department (OPD), laboratories, ward and non-clinical services will remain suspended in the hospitals, agitating doctors said. Only the emergency services will be operational, they added. Resident doctors of AIIMS, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Maulana Azad Medical College will join the strike at a later stage.
