Smoke rises as grass slopes are set ablaze for growth of shrubs and weeds in the Kaski district of Nepal. In some cases, people incinerate grass slopes to check the growth of shrubs and weeds. Grass tends to be much less harmed by fire than trees or shrubs for a couple of reasons (grows from the base rather than the tip, burns quickly, etc.) so will survive frequent fire much better than other plants.
