Aamir Khan speaks of how Lagaan started: "First moment of Lagaan for me was when Ashutosh came to me after having made two disasters. Good disasters! We were standing outside my car in the building downstairs. There is a village where it does not rain. They have to give lagaan. To cancel the lagaan, they play a cricket match. I said 'Ash, it is an absurd unbelievable idea.. Ashu was looking at me, looking sad and then he disappeared. After six months, he came back. He had written the script. I said 'Absolutely not! Then I felt bad for him and I heard it. On hearing it, I was blown!"
