Religious idols are supposed to be small and portable, so that the divinity is the focus and not the size. As idols became larger and larger, it no longer was possible for humans to lift them! Along comes an innovative solution... India's Bengali festival uses mechanisation to carry out its work - a crane is put to use to place the idol in water, thus releasing chemicals from the paint into the water.
