Taherpur's St. Thomas Church vandalized in India

A group of unidentified miscreants vandalised a church in Nadia's Taherpur, desecrated the sacrament and damaged the tabernacle after removing it from the altar last night. The incident occurred at the 70-year-old St Thomas Catholic Church, which is under the Roman Catholic diocese of Krishnagar and barely 10km from the Ranaghat convent where an elderly nun was gang-raped four months ago during a robbery. A senior police officer said the miscreants destroyed the tabernacle, a gold-plated brass container where the Eucharist is kept. The broken tabernacle and the consecrated host were found on a road outside the church. The miscreants also broke windowpanes and damaged the church organ. The consecrated host is used during Mass. It consists of wine and white bread. They are considered scared
