Prawn inhabits all sort of water i.e., sea-water, fresh-water and estuaries of temperate and tropical countries. Their greatest quality lies in their adaptation to changing factors like temperature, oxygen concentration, and salinity. Prawn fishing in marine water is mainly restricted to the west coast. The Bay of Bengal, Kerala state and Bombay coast are the chief centers for the production of marine prawn. In the sea, the shrimps are mostly confined to the shallow coast and do not occur beyond a depth of about twenty meters.
