Jatropha farming in Dhanbad, Jharkhand - India's miracle new bio-fuel source or a flop show? See farmers hard at work in planting Jetropha which was touted as the fuel source of the future, and a valuable source for biofuel. But the hype seems to have fizzled out. Is Jatropha a flor show or is its cultivation or useful fuel extraction too complex a task, or is the hydro-carbon content not sufficient to justify the costs? Says the government representative, "We plant 1000 plants in one acre, as a pollution free source of energy, and the crop is ready in one year." Jatropha is a genus of flowering plants in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae.
