Jatropha farming in Dhanbad, Jharkhand - India's miracle new bio-fuel source or a flop show? See farmers hard at work in planting Jetropha which was touted as the fuel source of the future, and a valuable source for biofuel. But the hype seems to have fizzled out. Is Jatropha a flor show or is its cultivation or useful fuel extraction too complex a task, or is the hydro-carbon content not sufficient to justify the costs? Says the government representative, "We plant 1000 plants in one acre, as a pollution free source of energy, and the crop is ready in one year." Jatropha is a genus of flowering plants in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. The name is derived from the Greek words ἰατρός, meaning "physician", and τροφή, meaning "nutrition", hence the common name physic nut. Another common na
