Sheila Dikshit says "Well you know Delhi was having a very bad girl-boy ratio. We were 880 girls to a boy and that was something very frightening for a city like Delhi to have. So what I thought and I thought then suddenly it came in a flash that alright let's have a scheme where we encourage the girl child to go to school and also give their parents money at the end of her class 12 which is one lakh rupees. So she first gets registered, goes into school, does her class 12th and then gets one lakh then it's for the parents and her to decide what they do. Now, this scheme had such an electrifying effect that the 880 registrations which used to take place of girls became 104 to 200 boys.
